Manufactured on contract for the German military, the 1913 DWM Luger marks the transition from the "First Issue" pattern to the standard that would carry through the First World War. Like the first issue, this Luger was manufactured without a stock lug or hold-open device, and this example managed to avoid being retrofit for the latter during its service life. Fixed sights, with "1913" on the chamber and the DWM monogram on the front toggle. Three "crown/letter" proofs are present on the right side of the extension, with Imperial eagle firing proofs on the extension, barrel and breechblock, and traditional "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" markings on the lower safety position and extractor.
