Description:

Manufactured by Steyr under German occupation, the MP40 was a refined and streamlined successor to the MP38, making extensive use of metal stampings and synthetic materials to make a weapon robust enough to withstand the stress of war while being simple enough to manufacture to keep up with the demand. Nearly every armed branch and paramilitary organization in Germany made use of the MP40, and many also found their way into the hands of opposition forces such as the French Resistance and Poland's Home Army, making it one of the signature weapons of the war. Blade front and two-leaf rear sights, with "bnz" markings on the receiver tube and end cap, the latter also dated "41". Matching numbers are present on multiple parts, including the barrel, receiver, endcap, and bolt assembly. Fitted with a set of brown bakelite side panels and an under-folding stock. Included with the lot is an extra bolt assembly, which the consignor reportedly acquired to preserve the original matching numbered bolt if one desired to fire it.

Rating Definition:

Exceptional fine, all matching numbers, with 85% plus original blue finish, and light handling marks overall. The charging handle is lightly dented and cracked (but still in working order). The side panels are very fine, showing some light scratches. Mechanically excellent. One will look a long time to find a finer example! NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
