This M1 Garand rifle is was originally a standard late production example manufactured in 1955, and subsequently upgraded by the hands of a Springfield Armory employee to a Type II National Match rifle in the standard configuration for the 1963 National Matches. Table 7, page 842 of Bruce Canfield's book "The M1 Garand Rifle" has a Springfield Research Service listing with the serial number of this rifle showing it was sold to "F M Robinson" on "08-14-70". This rifle was upgraded in the last year of Springfield Army M1 National Match production and has all of the final features of the Type II National Match rifles including a fiberglass bedded stock, front handguard glued to the lower barrel band, right of the front sight marked "NM/062", hooded rear sight aperture with "595" on the cylinder and "NM" on the shank, rear sight base marked "NM/2A" on the right, windage knob marked "NM", operating rod marked "NM" on the handle and "7790722-RA" underneath, barrel stamped "NM" on the left between the gas cylinder rings, gas cylinder stamped "NM" on the flat behind the sling swivel, and the last four digits of the serial number "2562" marked in white paint on the inside of the barrel channel and on the trigger housing floor plate. The barrel chamber is stamped with the part number, "SA F7791035" followed by the date "12-62" and the "T" target stamp, "P" proof, "M" magnetic particle testing stamp and DOD stamp. A DOD stamp is located on the left of the stock and an encircled block "P" proof is stamped on the front of the pistol grip. Includes M1907 leather sling, and combination tool in butt compartment.

Exceptionally fine as U.S. Springfield Armory upgraded to National Match specifications, retains 99% parkerized finish. Stock is also excellent with minimal handling evidence. All markings and edges remain distinct overall. Mechanically excellent.
