Description:

This late production big bore percussion duck gun was manufactured in circa 1873/4. With browned Damascus barrels signed “JOSPEH HARKOM & SON. 32 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH” on the concave rib. Border and scroll engraved casehardened standing breech and locks, the latter each signed “HARKOM & SON”, with dolphin carved hammers, and blued trigger guard. Well figured walnut half stock with checkered grip and forearm, the underside of the butt with blank oval initial escutcheon. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection

Rating Definition:

Barrels retaining 95% rebrowned finish, good Damascus pattern, clear signature. Breeches a dark patina, clear engraved decoration. Standing breech and locks retaining 40% faded original casehardened finish, trigger guard with 20% original blued finish mostly to inner surface. Stock lightly refinished with minor handling marks, and sharp recut checkering. Butt plate with mostly a grey patina. Mechanically excellent.
