Built on a 1953 manufactured Winchester Model 70 action which was subsequently upgraded by Griffin & Howe. Blued barrel with hooded ramped beaded blade front sight surrounded by scroll engraving, "No. 2239 GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK" marked on top, flip up rear sight, and band of engraving at the breech. The action has a gold inlaid serial number, still visible "WP" proof, rear peep sight base, and engraved Griffin & Howe scope mount holding a Zeiss scope. The floorplate is also engraved in the style of J. Fuggar, showing a hunter grabbing for his rifle at the appearance of a bear in a forest scene and a big horn ram on the trigger guard. Lightly figured, multi-point checkered pistol grip stock with horn forend tip, engraved steel grip cap, raised cheek piece, sling studs, gold inscription oval marked "S.R.H", and checkered steel trapdoor buttplate.
Very fine as upgraded to current configuration, retaining 90% Griffin & Howe applied blue finish, remaining with wear visible on the trigger guard, minor handling evidence on the balance, a few tiny scratches in the wood, and sharp stock checkering. The scope optics are clear with a few blemishes. Mechanically excellent.
