The accompanying factory letter confirms the 30 inch no. 5 octagon barrel, .32-40 caliber, and Schuetzen set trigger when the rifle was received in the warehouse on October 26th, 1900 and shipped on October 29th, 1900, with the serial number applied on July 13th, 1900. The No. 5 bottom marked barrel is stamped on the top with the two-line Winchester New Haven address and "32-40". Fitted with a globe front sight (no insert) and the top of the receiver tang is factory drilled and tapped for a peep sight (not included). The lower tang has the patent date marking and the serial number. The checkered forearm and pistol grip stock are deluxe walnut. The forend has two empty holes for affixing a palm rest (not included). The buttstock features a hard rubber Winchester grip cap, cheek piece and Helm buttplate. The left side of the lower tang is stamped with the assembly number "10388 U.S. XX". The assembly number "10388" is repeated on the matching original buttstock under the buttplate.
Very fine, retains 70% original blue finish overall with scattered light freckling and smooth brown patina on the balance. Wood is very fine with defined edges, a few light scratches, some areas of light crazing, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
