Exceptional Revolutionary War Era British Brown Bess Short Land Pattern Flintlock Musket with Bayonet

The legendary Short Land Brown Bess (aka 2nd Model) along side the earlier Long Land Brown Bess (aka 1st Model) were the standard British infantry muskets of the American Revolution. This musket is the Pattern 1777 (Short Land, New Pattern, Type 2) variation manufactured c. 1777-1782 during the Revolution. The barrel has the standard combination bayonet stud/front sight, Tower proofs and a "crown/4" mark by the vent. "IM" or "WI" is marked at the tail of the left stock flat. A 1780s storekeeper's mark is on the right side of the butt. The lock has the standard Georgian cipher and "TOWER" markings. The musket is complete with a button head ramrod and a "DAWES" and "1/59" marked socket bayonet with a leather scabbard. Provenance: The Eric Vaule Collection; The Greg Lampe Collection

ConditionExceptionally fine overall with mostly bright lock and barrel with some oil staining and minor pitting, attractive aged patina on the brass furniture, and generally fairly light overall wear. The stock is very fine and has some scattered dings and scratches, a faint tension crack at the breech on the left, minor flakes, and distinct markings. Mechanically excellent. The bayonet and scabbard are fine with mild wear. This is an excellent chance to get your hands on an outstanding Brown Bess from the American Revolutionary War era!
