Description:

Manufactured in 1935/1936, as part of Germany's clandestine re-armament program, being one of only about 4000 made that year by Krieghoff for the Luftwaffe. Fixed sights, with the "S" date code on the chamber and the B-2 profile Krieghoff logo on the front toggle link; only seen on the early "S" date Lugers, the B-2 profile was only applied to about 2,500 pistols, only about 15% of total production. A set of "eagle" and "eagle/2" military proofs are present on the barrel, receiver, breechblock, right frame rail and multiple other parts, with the unnumbered barrel bearing the "8,82" internal diameter mark. Overall finish is a correct high polish, commercial grade blue, with straw finished small parts, niter blue pins and springs, checkered grips and a pair of nickel finished magazines with alloy bases. The replacement extractor is numbered "22" and some components (including the correct fat checkered wood grips) are unnumbered, otherwise numbers are matching overall, including the correct original magazines, both of which have "eagle/2" proofs and lack the "+" mark. The included holster is brown leather construction, with a faint Lengefeld maker's mark and Waffenamt stamp on the back next to "1987" (one digit off from the pistol), and an unmarked takedown tool. The back of the holster also bears a partially scratched out hand marking; surviving elements of the marking suggest the original GI who captured the pistol was with the 350th Infantry Regiment, a component of the 88th Division. The 88th spent most of its combat service in Italy, seeing action at Anzio, the drive to Rome, and fighting in the Po Valley, ending the war in the Dolomite Alps. After the war, they performed duty securing the border between Italy and Yugoslavia while the full formal peace treaty between Italy and the Allies was penned.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, with 90% original blue finish, showing bright edge wear, mild spotting concentrated on the gripstraps, and light handling marks. 70% of the original straw color is present, with traces of niter blue. The grips are also very fine, with mild dents and handling marks. The holster is fair, with a number of scuffs, cracks and stains. Mechanically excellent.
