Marked "Massgeratkasten/fur P.08 und K.98" (Measurement Device Box for P.08 and K.98) on the lid, this case contains a set of two removable trays of measuring and reaming tools, one with tools specialized for the P.08 Luger semi-automatic pistol and one with tools for the K.98 rifle. Several of the tools bear "Reichsheer", along with electro-pencil added Waffenamt inspection marks, suggesting the case was part of the military inventory right around the end of the Weimar era and the official rise to power of the Nazis. Some of the tools are also dated, chiefly in the 1930s. The Luger tray contains 32 pieces, a mix of gauges and reamers, along with a few inert cartridges. The K98 tray contains 24 pieces, similar to the Luger tray in contents, with two empty slots. A metal frame for an inventory list is installed inside the lid, but no list is included. A similar kit can be seen on page 717 of Goertz & Sturgess's "Pistole Parabellum" (volume 2).

Fine. Some minor spotting and handling marks can be seen on some of the tools, which are overall bright and well kept. A few gauges are missing (see above). The case shows wear appropriate to age and travel. An essential but scarce piece of German military kit which would enhance any collection of Weimar or WWII Luger pistols or Mauser rifles.
