Description:

French Model 1763 and 1766 muskets were among the most widely used muskets by the Patriots during the American Revolutionary War thanks to support from France which ultimately allowed the Americans to emerge victorious. French muskets remained in use well-into the 19th century and were the basis for the early U.S. martial musket models. This musket has a bayonet stud on top near the muzzle, a brass blade front sight on the rear strap of the upper barrel band, "US" marked on the barrel tang, a "star/D" inspection mark and "Charleville" on the center of the lock, "US" on the tail of the lock, "BL" inside the lock, "US" within a circle on the left stock flat, "AR" on the sideplate, a "D" on the left side of the butt, and a faint "W" to the left of the trigger.

Rating Definition:

Very good plus with gray and brown patina, mild pitting concentrated at the breech, general mild overall wear, and partially faded French markings. The refinished stock is fine and has some minor chips, general mild scrapes and dings, a faint tension crack at the breech, and crack at the toe. Mechanically fine. This is your opportunity to acquire one of the finer U.S. surcharged Revolutionary War era French Charleville Model 1766s we have ever offered!
