Per Blackmore, William Brazier was apprenticed to Edmund Weston in 1702 and was made free of the Gunmakers Co. in 1711, elected as an assistant in 1723, as master in 1730, had 28,844 guns proofed between 1721 and 1731 and was active until at least 1753. The three-stage barrel has a tapered flare to about 1 1/4 inches at the muzzle and is marked with Brazier's "crown/WB" mark between the London proof and view marks on the upper left at the breech. The early "banana" profile lock is signed "W./BRAZIER" and has border engraving. The brass furniture includes floral and border engraving. The full-length stock has a raised plateau around the iron barrel tang and a swell at the entry pipe.

Rating Definition:

Fine with mostly bright brass barrel and furniture with some aged patina, dark brown patina on the lock along with some minor pitting, and general mild wear. The re-oiled stock is also fine and has spliced repairs at the forend tip and general light scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
