Likely manufactured c. the mid-19th century, this very attractive Bowie knife bears only the faint remnants of a maker's mark, but was likely made in Sheffield, England. It measures 13 3/4 inches overall with a 8 3/8 inch clip point blade, the left ricasso bearing a few faint letters of a maker's mark. The guard is German silver and is a twisted snake motif. It is fitted with smooth pearl grip scales with a German silver escutcheon on the left marked with the initials "P.H.S.". The pommel is also German silver with American eagle and shield motifs and a horse's head. Includes a brown leather sheath with German silver fitting.

Good, the blade mostly bright with moderate wear and sharpening evidence and some light pitting scattered throughout. The German silver shows an attractively ages patina overall. The grip scales are very good with some filling repair visible on the two forward pins, minor cracking, and chipping on the balance. The sheath is very good with mild wear.
