Antique Colt Black Powder Single Action Army Revolver with Money Belt Holster Rig and Sheep Shears

The Colt Single Action Army Revolver is arguably the most iconic handgun of Americana. In the hands of ranchers, cavalrymen, Native Americans, lawmen and outlaws, the Peacemaker’s legacy was forged out in the hostile American West and continues to gain popularity among today's collectors. This is a very interesting SAA holster rig associated with a sheep rancher, and the revolver itself certainly has the look of a trusty sidearm that spent a lifetime carried at the hip. Its nickel finish and grip material exude 19th century wealth and power. The barrel has been shortened (muzzle crowned) and the front sight reattached during its service life to meet the demands of the day. The top of the 4 3/4 inch barrel has the one-line Hartford address, a marking reserved for barrels 5 1/2 inches or longer. The frame has the two-line patent dates marking, and the trigger guard shoulder is marked "45 CAL." The bottom of the grip is checkered. The number "1" is stamped above or below the main serial numbers which match on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap. The holster rig features a cartridge money belt marked "161/44," floral and U.S. patriotic motif tooled holster, and holster for a rancher's other life sustaining tool, a pair of included English made sheep shears. The shears are by Burgon & Ball, whose heritage dates as far back as the 1730s.

ConditionFine, retaining 70% original nickel finish with attractive frontier holster type wear. The grip straps retain 40% original nickel finish with the balance a smooth dark brown patina associated with years of being in the hand. The highly attractive grip is very fine with an attractive mellow aged appearance and grain and hand worn high edges. Mechanically excellent. The shears are well weathered and worn. The holster rig is fine overall. An authentic working man's Peacemaker that has a story or two to tell.
