Description:

Manufactured c. mid-19th century by Unwin & Rodgers of Sheffield, England, knives such as this one were made almost exclusively for the American market and their appetite for large Bowie knives. This massive knife measures 16 1/4 inches overall with an 11 1/8 inch spearpoint blade. One ricasso is marked with a "CAST STEEL/BOWIE KNIFE" trademark, while the other bears the maker's mark. It is fitted with an elliptical German silver guard. The hilt is of German silver with smooth pearl grip scales and a German silver escutcheon on one side. The included sheath is of brown leather with a German silver throat fitting.

Rating Definition:

Very good, the blade mostly bright with some mild wear, a few patches of scattered light pitting, and mostly crisp markings. The German silver shows an attractively aged patina overall. The grips are also very good with a few minor chips and cracks. The sheath is good with extensive wear and tearing, and the tip fitting absent.
