Description:

This is an excellent example of an early 1923 Stoeger Model "American Eagle" marked Commercial Luger with the very desirable A.F. Stoeger markings. These American Eagle Lugers were the very first Stoeger Lugers made expressly by DWM under contract for the Stoeger Arms Company in New York for import into the United States. Although it is estimated that over 1000 of this model was made they are very scarce today, especially in this original, high condition. The chamber is marked with the American Eagle crest with the DWM logo on the front toggle. The right side of the barrel extension is marked with "A.F. STOEGER, INC./NEW YORK." with a very small "GERMANY" stamped on the front of the frame below the serial number. It is correctly marked "GESICHERT and "GELADEN" respectively on the extractor and under the safety lever. The front of the frame and underside of the barrel are both correctly stamped with the serial number 7311 and the correct letter "t" suffix code usually found on these early Stoeger Lugers. The left side of the barrel extension, underside of the barrel, and left side of the front toggle have a "Crown/N" proof mark. The magazine is a nickel plated version with a wood base that is stamped "GERMANY". The pistol has a rust blue finish with straw colored small components and checkered walnut grips. It is complete with an early, exceptionally well made, unmarked commercial holster. The holster was either made expressly for Stoeger or was made in the U.S. for Stoeger using a German Holster as a pattern. This example is very unique in that it has the front magazine pouch with an additional pouch for a steel cleaning rod (included) with a separate slot for a pin-punch next to the takedown tool. This rig is complete with one unmarked spare magazine with the nickel plated magazine body and wooden base, and pin-punch. Provenance: The Joe Marlin Hilliard Collection

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 98% plus of the original blue finish and straw colors overall with minor edge and high spot wear overall with slight wear on the side plate hump and front edge of the muzzle. The grips are also excellent plus with nice sharp distinct checkering on both sides. Mechanically excellent. The holster is like new overall showing only light handling marks, with nice tight stitching. Just a beautiful scarce early Stoeger American Eagle Luger in like new condition.
