Attractive Gold Plated Savage Model 1907 Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter and Case

Manufactured in 1914, only 9,849 Model 1907 pistols were manufactured chambered in .380 ACP, compared to nearly 210,000 in .32 ACP. The top of the slide is marked with the two-line address, patent date, and caliber marking, lacking the "9MM" notation. The "SAVAGE" trademark is marked on the left of the frame. Unlike most Savage pistols with gold plated finish, this example features no engraving, making it more rare. It is fitted with a pair of checkered hard rubber grips with Savage logos at the center. The included factor letter lists that the pistol was received from the factory on 19 January 1914 and shipped on 15 February 1916 to H&D Folsom Arms Co. in New York. The letter lists the finish as nickel, which the author of "Savage Pistols" indicates as possibly a factory error or incomplete notation as the pistol does not appear refinished and has nickel plating under the gold plating. Includes a custom hardwood presentation case. Provenance: The Bailey Brower, Jr. Collection, author of “Savage Pistols”

ConditionVery fine, retains 75% plus of the possibly period retailer applied gold finish with the balance having thinned to reveal mostly a bright factory documented nickel finish beneath, primarily on edges and the grip straps. The grips are very fine with a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. The modern custom case is very good with some scattered light handling/storage marks.
