Manufactured in 1928 and subsequently embellished by noted engraver David Wade Harris. Harris is best known for his cattle brand engraving and was taught the art of cattle brand engraving by Weldon Bledsoe, who had in turn learned the art from Cole Agee, the originator of the cattle brand engraving. 75% of the surface features Harris' engraving which consists mostly of floral scrollwork on a punch dot background. Fan patterns decorate the recoil shield, loading gate, and top of the back strap. The backstrap features a checker and dot motif. Most of the metal wears blue finish, with the exception of the extractor, hammer, trigger shoe, screws and other small components which are gold plated. There is also gold inlaid outline bordering the bottom of the frame, the front edges of the cylinder, and around the rear and front portions of the barrel. The butt is signed "DW HARRIS." The barrel is marked with the one-line Colt Hartford address on top, the left side is marked "45 COLT," and the frame is marked with the two-line patent dates followed by a Rampant Colt. The frame and grip frame share matching serial numbers, and the loading gate has the assembly number "1293."

Very fine as professionally embellished by David Wade Harris, with over 98% blue finish and gold plating across all the metal components. The blue finish is rich and deep, complemented by the crisp engravings and contrasted against the gold plated highlights. The grips are fine, with a small chip located on the bottom interior of the left side panel. Mechanically fine.
