Offered here is an outstanding example of a Marlin Model 1895 rifle with stellar casehardened frame. These rifles were the answer to the Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifle and although they never attained the same status as the Winchester rifles, some consider them to be a better and stronger than those manufactured by Winchester. The accompanying factory letter confirms the takedown configuration and factory documented special order 26 inch half octagon barrel in .45-90 caliber. The rifle is fitted with German silver blade front and elevation adjustable buckhorn rear sights. The barrel has the two-line Marlin legend ahead of the rear sight and "45-90 at the breech along with "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" on the upper left flat. "MARLIN SAFETY" is marked on top of the casehardened receiver. The upper tang is marked "MODEL/1895." The serial number is stamped on the underside of the receiver. Exceptionally fine. The barrel, magazine tube, and forend cap retain 90% plus original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. 95% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The frame and bolt retain 85% plus vivid original case colors. The takedown collar retains 60% original case colors. The hammer and lever retain 70% original case colors. Patterns of original case colors remain on the buttplate. The left side of the forearm has an area of dings near the end cap, otherwise the wood is excellent with some minor handling marks, most of the original finish remaining, and overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. A highly attractive, high condition Marlin Model 1895 .45-90 rifle that will be a great addition to any Marlin or lever action collection.
