Lot 7
Civil War Era New Haven Arms Co. Henry Lever Action Rifle
Manufactured 1863. Empty receiver sight dovetail, folding ladder rear sight on the barrel and the two-line barrel legend. The full serial number is on the top flat of the barrel at the breech, the left of the lower tang, inside the buttplate, on the forward upper tang screw, and both buttplate screws. The lower tang screw is a poorly numbered to match replacement. Only around 14,000 Henrys were manufactured in 1860-1866, and around half of them are believed to have been used by Union soldiers, mostly purchased by the men themselves, some using reenlistment bonuses. "That damned Yankee rifle that can be loaded on Sunday and fired all week" was one of the most advanced firearms of the war. Includes a four-piece metal cleaning rod.

The New Haven Arms Co. Volcanic pistols and carbines manufactured in 1857-1860 are important pieces in the evolution of Winchester firearms. The follower is detached from the magazine spring. An estimated 1,000 total carbines were produced distributed across three different barrel length configurations, with the 25 inch barrel being the most desirable and most being factory engraved. Numbered "3" on the left of the lower tang.

Lot 2143
Colt Whitneyville Hartford Dragoon Percussion Revolver
Reportedly these revolvers were manufactured in late 1847. These "Transition Dragoons" were serial numbered in the subsequent sequence to the civilian Colt Walker Model revolvers and utilized mostly refurbished parts from the predecessor model. Few examples are known to collectors today. This revolver is the first variation Transition Dragoon which features a cut-out at the rear of the frame which fits the curved portion of the grips. The recoil shield lacks a capping clearance groove added around serial number 1142. Other features on this revolver that distinguish Transitional Dragoon revolvers from the later Dragoon revolvers include: semi-circular COLT'S PATENT on right side of frame, short trigger, cylinder stop screws that do not pass through the right side of the frame, steel back strap, trigger guard that slants back towards the grips, and "Slim Jim" grip. This example has been re-welded and remarked but remains a rare opportunity to add the most elusive of all the Colt Dragoon percussion revolvers to your collection.

New York Engraved Winchester Model 1866 Rifle
This Model 1866 was manufactured in 1881 and features factory quality, New York style, floral scroll and punch dot engraving on the receiver, buttplate, and forend cap. The engraving is very similar to the Nimschke engraved example on page 84 of THE WINCHESTER BOOK by Madis. Only 210 Model 1866s were factory engraved or inscribed and 300 were plated as discussed in THE WINCHESTER BOOK; rifles are more rare than carbines. The barrel is marked with the two line address/King's Improvement patent dates on the top barrel flat ahead of the folding ladder rear sight, and the serial number is marked on the lower tang under the lever in the correct Third Model style.

Smith & Wesson American Revolver Inscribed to Lawman Larry Deger
Manufactured 1872-74. Side plate is inscribed "Marshal Larry Deger/Dodge City/Kansas." With open top leather holster. Included is consignor research pertaining to Larry Deger. In the late 1870s Larry Deger (1845-1924) was the first marshal of Dodge City, Kansas. Weighing in at over 300 pounds, Deger was literally a big lawman of the Western frontier. His quarrel with the city's mayor and Bat Masterson ultimately was his undoing and in 1877 the young gun gunslinger Masterson replaced Deger as the marshal of Dodge City. In 1883 Deger was elected mayor and passed many reformers meant to wipe out Dodge City's vice. He served one term as mayor and returned to private life, eventually owning and operating a lumber company in Texas.

The tube is very fine retaining most of the brown finish with the balance a bright bronze. The carriage is very good, apart from one of the wheels that has multiple broke/absent spokes, retaining most of the green and black finishes.
