Attractive Winchester Deluxe Style Model 1895 Lever Action Rifle in Desirable .405 W.C.F.

Manufactured in 1903, this is a very attractively configured Model 1895 rifle. While the .405 W.C.F. cartridge was introduced the same year this rifle was made, there are factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech which began in 1905, the two-line nickel steel marking on the upper left of the barrel which began in 1905, and a "J.P.P." marking on the left side of the upper tang for James P. Parker, a Winchester factory worker that did barrel work. It is the writer's belief that this rifle was returned to the factory sometime after 1905, where it was upgraded to its current, desirable configuration. The barrel also has the "405 W.C.F." caliber marking on the upper left and is fitted with a Lyman beaded blade front sight and elevation adjustable notch rear sight. The left side of the receiver has the standard two-line address and patents dates, and it is fitted with a Lyman peep sight. It is mounted with a very finely figured, H-pattern checkered, Schnabel tip forearm with ebony insert and straight grip stock with a checkered hard rubber shotgun buttplate.

ConditionVery fine, retains 90% plus of the factory refinished blue finish and vibrant case colors on the hammer. The markings on the left of the receiver are slightly softened while the markings on the barrel are crisp. The refinished wood is also very fine with some scattered minor dings and dents, with otherwise crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.
