One of only 9,000 manufactured c. 1870-1890, the majority of which had iron frames, this is an outstanding example of a rare brass frame Colt No. 2 Derringer. A small number of these scarce brass frame Derringers are found in the 1500 serial number range and again in the 2500 serial number range. The top barrel flat has the two-line address followed by "No2", with both flanked by Maltese crosses. The sides of the brass frame and sides of the barrel lug have flourishes of the factory floral scroll engraving. The engraving extending to the barrel is considered a deluxe treatment and is not common. The matching serial number is on the butt and the bottom of the barrel along with two British proofs. It is fitted with a pair of the checkered walnut grips, both having the matching serial number marked in ink on the inside.
