Description:

This model was manufactured in 1869-72, with total production around 5,000. The Thuer conversions were the first Colt revolvers to utilize a metallic cartridge and are scarce and historically significant firearms. The Thuer conversion ring has a script "E" that denotes the eject position. The right side of the barrel lug is machined to permit front loading of the cartridge and the loading lever rammer is threaded on the internal face, both Thuer features. The cylinder has been modified to accommodate the conversion ring. The conversion ring has the distinctive knurled turning knob, rebounding firing pin, and ejection mechanism. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene, and it has the one-line New York barrel address. Full and partial matching serial number "37307" marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt, cylinder, cylinder pin and handwritten in black ink inside the grip mortise. Unnumbered wedge. Matching assembly number "20" marked on the cylinder and Thuer conversion ring.

Rating Definition:

Very good with a charming patina characteristic of light frontier use, retains 20% original blue finish, traces of original case colors in protected areas, with smooth gray patina and scattered mild freckling on the balance of the iron surfaces, a few patches of light pitting, attractive golden aged patina on the brass, and defined markings and edges in the metal overall. The grip is also very good, with mild edge wear, some surface crazing, scattered dings and dents, and a small chipped section in the front right corner. Mechanically excellent. This desirable Colt Thuer Conversion Model 1860 Army revolver would make a fine addition to any American West or Colt firearms collection!
