Description:

Lefaucheux revolvers were one of the few handguns used by both the North and South during the Civil War that used self-contained metallic cartridges. A total of 11,833 E. Lefaucheux manufactured Model 1854 revolvers are believed to have been imported for use by the Union troops, reportedly in the 25000-37000 serial range. They were also purchased and used by European militaries and are considered to be the first metallic cartridge handguns officially adopted by any national military. This example has the standard bead front sight on a triangular base, hammer notch rear sight, smooth walnut grips, lanyard ring and is marked with the E. Lefaucheux maker name on the left side of the frame and the Lefaucheux trademark crossed revolvers over "LF" followed by the serial number "34538" on the right of the frame.

Rating Definition:

Fine, retains 60% plus original bright blue finish with some scattered scratches and smooth brown patina on the balance, strong traces of original case colors showing vivid on bottom around the trigger area, and sharp markings and edges in the metal overall. The grips are also fine with some light surface crazing, a few light handling marks, one small absent sliver on the rear edge of the right grip panel, and defined edges. Mechanically excellent.
