Description:

Developed in 1942, the U.S. M1 Thompson was a streamlined version of the classic Thompson SMG, intended to simplify the weapon and speed the manufacturing process. This example is a continuation of that made after World War II by Auto-Ordnance and subsequently modified to look more like a WWII piece. While frills were trimmed, the M1 was still a classic "heavy metal" SMG, constructed from machined steel with fine hardwood furniture. This example was produced post-WWII for commercial sale. Blade front and fixed peep rear sights, with a straight forearm under the smooth barrel, ribbed pistol grip and a fixed buttstock. The slots for the drum magazine have been eliminated, with the simplified drum and post style selector/safety switches on the trigger housing. The bolt is the simplified M1A1 design, sans oiler and Blish lock, with a fixed firing pin. Includes a green canvas transport case. Magazine absent.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. 95% of the professionally restored matte gray parkerized finish is present, with mild handling marks, but about 80% of the barrel and receiver have been given a green paint overspray, concentrated on the top surfaces. The spray does not extend to the wood, which is very good with some light dings and scratches. The bolt shows mild pitting on much of the surface, but is still in fine order. The case is good, with some repairs. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
