Connecticut Shotgun Manufacturing Company builds these exceedingly fine guns by hand just as they were over 100 years ago when Ansley Herman Fox designed his world famous gun. Fox guns are known as "the finest gun in the world" by many and C.S.M.C. is keeping that legacy alive through guns like this exceptional piece. This gun is built with blued steel barrels featuring dual white beads on the matted concave solid rib which is marked with a thin gold line and a "1" toward the breech. The barrels are marked "MADE TO ORDER A. H. FOX" and "KRUPP FLUID STEEL" on the right and left barrels respectively, 2 1/4 inch wedges of floral scroll engraving at either breech, and 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The vibrantly case colored boxlock action is set up with a left hand throw toplever and displays beautifully cut floral scroll engraving surrounding "ANSLEY H. FOX" banners on either side and a set of three game scenes. The left side shows a pair of grouse flushing near a stand of pines, the underside shows a setter on point, and the right side shows a pair of pheasant in flight over a field, with all three cut in fine semi-relief. The gun features a pair of gold plated triggers and a tang mounted automatic safety switch with a gold inlaid "SAFE" marking. Exhibition grade, highly figured fancy checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and an ebony tip inlay along with a straight grip stock with gold inscription oval marked "NGN" and casehardened and engraved skeleton buttplate around the checkered butt. Included is a second matching 16 gauge barrel set which measures 28 inches and features 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors and its own forend. Also included is an oak & leather takedown case that houses the entire set along with a nickel oiler, and a pair of nickel snap caps. Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue and casehardened finishes with minimal handling evidence and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. The case and extra barrel set are also excellent.
