This scarce Crown Grade is one of only 842 made by Hunter Arms Co. according to page 96 of William Brophy's "L. C. Smith Shotguns". Blued steel barrels with single brass bead sight on the matted concave solid rib with engraving and a gold inlaid bar toward the breech, "L. C. SMITH Crown GRADE" and "MADE TO ORDER BY THE HUNTER ARMS CO. INC. FULTON. N.Y." marked on the right and left barrels respectively, 1 1/2 inch wedges of scroll engraving at either breech, and chambers measured 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors. The casehardened sidelock action displays the exceptional factory cut engraving these high grade L. C. Smith guns are known for. The left side shows a pair of setters on point in a field, and the right has a pair of pointers following the scent of game with the balance filled with attractive floral scrollwork and the tell-tale gold inlaid crown on the toplever. The gun features a Hunter One Trigger and tang mounted manual safety switch with a small gold inlaid "S". The beautifully figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with ebony tip inlay and engraved fittings and round knob pistol grip stock featuring a leather covered recoil pad.
