This civilian Colt Model 1860 Army revolver was manufactured in 1867. The revolver has a civilian type three-screw frame with no stock cut-outs in the recoil shield, and has grips with a highly detailed, relief carved Mexican eagle and rattlesnake motif in an oval on the left side. The barrel, cylinder, trigger guard, and back strap have a deluxe, high polish blue finish. The loading lever, hammer, and frame are color casehardened. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the Naval Battle of Campeche scene and "COLT'S PATENT." The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend "-ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA-" in a single line. "COLTS/PATENT" is stamped in two lines on the left side of the frame. "44 CAL" is stamped on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. All matching visible serial numbers marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt, cylinder, wedge, cylinder pin, and handwritten inside the front grip mortise. Fine, retains 60% plus original high polish blue finish on the barrel with scattered flaking and scratches showing smooth brown patina on the balance, the cylinder showing a smooth gray patina with some scattered patches of light pitting and a defined scene, 40% of the muted original case colors visible, 20% original silver plated finish around the trigger guard, 30% original blue finish on the backstrap, with sharp markings in the metal overall. The grip is very fine with some age related cracking, a few small chips on the left edge, a mild chip on the right edge, and defined raised relief carving and edges. Mechanically excellent.
