Manufactured in 1928, this Model 1894 carbine includes a 1995 letter from Robert H. Mitchell attributing this carbine as formerly from the armory of the Maharajah of Faridkot, which was purchased by Westley Richards before being purchased by Mitchell. The letter states that three saddle ring carbines in .32-40 W.C.F. were in the armory, all with the unique four-leaf rear sight that is seen on this example. The left of the barrel is marked with the two-line address/patent dates, two-line nickel steel marking, and the caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang has the three-line Winchester trademark, and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a pinned beaded blade front sight (bead absent), the unique four-leaf rear sight, and a saddle ring on the left of the receiver. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a carbine buttplate. Along with the aforementioned letter, information regarding the Maharajahs of Faridkot is included. Fine, retains 80% of the dark original blue on the receiver and 90% of the original blue on the remainder with the balance mostly a smooth grey patina and a coat of protective varnish overall. The wood is also fine with some minor handling marks scattered throughout. Mechanically excellent.
