Manufactured in 1906, with the standard Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech. The two-line address/patent dates and the caliber marking are on top of the barrel, and the two-line nickel steel marking is offset on the left. The upper tang has the three-line model and trademark information, and the two-line patent dates and serial number are on the lower tang. The left side of the lower tang has the assembly number "227 R", with "227" repeated in the stock inlet. It is fitted with a beaded blade front sight and elevation adjustable notch rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and plain pistol grip stock with both a hard rubber grip cap and checkered shotgun buttplate. The upper tang screw is undersized indicating that a peep sight was likely once fitted.

Fine, retains 40% of the original blue finish with the balance a smooth grey patina, primarily on the receiver and some light pitting on the bottom of the receiver in front of the lever. The reoiled wood is also fine with a hairline crack in the top of the wrist and some scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
