Brown Bess Maryland Committee of Safety attributed muskets were assembled using imported locks and barrels. Features brass furniture similar to a British Brown Bess musket, a 42 inch barrel, and a wrist escutcheon secured by a wood screw, which is considered a distinguishing feature of these early Maryland-attributed muskets. Raised letters "ICI" in a sunken rectangle on the lock between the frizzen spring, with a "US" (measures approximately 1/4" in height, possibly stamped in the post-Revolutionary War era) stamped on top of the breech and a mark resembling an inverted "V" within the arms of a larger "V" stamped at the left quarter of the breech, and a "D" stamped in the stock behind the trigger guard tang.
