Description:

The accompanying factory letter states the revolver was shipped to Belcher & Lommis Hardware Co. of Providence, Rhode Island, c/o Charles P. Brown of Newport, Rhode Island on October 4, 1934 with a 6 inch barrel in scarce .44 Special caliber, blue finish, type of stocks not listed and "furnished with a round butt configuration." This was a single gun shipment. Knowledgeable collectors believe that about 3,500 of these Shooting Master revolvers were built, of which, only 94 were chambered for .44 Special. A very rare piece of Colt DA history! Charles P. Brown remains unknown at this time, but could be a descendant of the wealthy 19th century Rhode Island lawyer, Charles P. Brown, who died in 1893, leaving behind three daughters. Brown's Victorian mansion is now owned by best selling author Stephen King and his wife. Fitted with an elevation adjustable blade front sight and a windage adjustable rear sight. The barrel is marked ""COLT SHOOTING MASTER .44 SPEC." on the left side and has the two-line Colt legend on top. A Rampant Colt is stamped on the sideplate. The left side of the trigger guard has a Colt factory "VP" triangle proof. Wearing a set of checkered Rampant Colt medallion grips with both panels have the number "404" stamped and hand written in ink on the back.

Rating Definition:

Very fine overall retaining 99% plus factory reapplied blue finish with the slightest handling marks and overall crisp grip checkering. Mechanically excellent. As one of only 94 estimated to have been factory chambered in .44 Special, this Colt Shooting Master revolver is missing from even the most advanced Colt collections.
