Very Fine Cased Colt Model 1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver with Accessories

This is a very fine example of a cased Colt Model 1849 revolver that was manufactured in 1865. The barrel is marked "ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S.AMERICA" on the top flat. The cylinder is roll-engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and is marked "COLTS PATENT" above the matching partial serial number "7518". The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT" and the left side of the trigger guard is marked "31 CAL" and "J". Complete matching serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap with matching partial number on the cylinder, wedge, arbor pin and loading lever and cylinder. The number "3" is stamped above the screw on the butt. Blue barrel and cylinder, casehardened frame, hammer and loading lever, and silver plated brass trigger guard and back strap and fitted with a one-piece varnished grip. Complete in a velvet lined hardwood case with locking lid, key, and five compartments with a "COLTS/PATENT" marked eagle powder flask, combination tool, brass bullet mold marked "COLTS PATENT", and a tin of Eley Brother percussion caps with caps. Provenance: The Norm Vegely Collection

ConditionVery fine. The barrel retains 95% bright original high polish blue. The cylinder retains 60% original blue finish with a smooth brown patina and mild pitting on the balance. The frame and hammer retain 70% original case colors. The grip straps retain 95% original silver plating with the exposed brass having a smooth patina. Most of the cylinder scene remains. The grip is excellent with a gouge near the top and a few minor handling marks with most of the varnish remaining. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with minor handling/storage marks and faded lining showing high spot wear. The accessories are very good.
