This prototype Savage pistol started development beginning in 1912; the Savage 25 ACP pistol was intended to compete with the Colt Model 1908 Vest Pocket pistol as a compact defensive weapon. While the design had a number of virtues and development led to a production-ready pistol, development halted in 1917, with only 25 estimated to exist in any stage of completion. Blade front and notch rear sights, with thin groove serrations at the rear of the slide, a safety switch on the left side of the frame, a grip safety on the backstrap, and a pair of checkered grips with "SAVAGE" banners and Indian head logos. Unmarked reworked magazine with five indicator holes.

Very good as period refinished, showing 95% of the dull blue finish, with some scattered edge wear, spotting and handling marks. The grips are fine, with some light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
