This late 18th century blunderbuss features a folding under barrel snap bayonet with a catch in the forend tip and a release trigger fitted to the acorn finial on the trigger guard. The main bore is .69 caliber (14 bore), and the bore at the muzzle flares out to 1 inch. The barrel has some decorative bands and light engraving, Ordnance private proofs and "London" in script on top, and an iron tang with simple floral engraving. The lock is signed "Grice" at center in script and has a large roller on the frizzen spring, floral and border engraving, and a stepped tail. The furniture is brass and has some light floral and border engraving. The stock has a very nicely relief carved shell pattern at the barrel tang.
Very good with attractive aged patina on the brass, gray and brown patina on the iron, distinct markings and engraving, and general minor overall wear. The stock is fine and has crisp carving, minor dings and scratches, and a faint crack on the left flat. Mechanically fine, including the bayonet mechanism.
