Description:

These classic c. 1830s percussion dueling pistols feature smoothbore, Damascus barrels with dovetailed blade and notch sights, "LACY & Co LONDON" signed on top, and platinum plugs in the breech plugs. The flat locks are also signed "LACY & Co" and have half-cock safeties. The pistols are equipped with single set triggers have and spurred trigger guards, silver escutcheons, horn end caps, checkered wrist, and scroll engraving. They come in a fitted case with a smaller caliber ball mold. A note from former owner Albert Kern dated May 10, 1913, is taped inside the lid and indicates the pair had survived the infamous Great Flood in 1913 in Dayton, Ohio. The flood affected much of the Midwest, and around 123 people were killed in Dayton alone. After the flood, the pair and its case were restored. The note indicates the set had two ball molds: one closer to bore size for use in serious duels and the smaller caliber where shots were simply meant to be exchanged.

Rating Definition:

Very good with most of the period refinished brown finish and Damascus patterns visible on the barrel, 75% case colors remaining, aged patina on the silver, 20% original blue with most rubbed back to gray, minor pitting, and general mild overall wear. The stock is also very good and has crisp checkering and some minor marks and scratches. The trigger doesn't fire the lock when set, but the pistol is otherwise mechanically fine. The relined case is also very good and has minor age and storage related wear.
