Description:

This is a very attractive example of a Victorian era assembled wheellock pistol built using antique components. The only visible marking is a maker's mark consisting of a tree flanked by "HL" in an oval on the 17th century lock and a floral stamp on the wheel. The overall style of the pistol is also mostly early 17th century and includes the extensive ornamentation expected on pistols meant for the elite. The pistol was finished bright and has an 18 inch part octagon barrel a banded cannon style muzzle. The stock is a full length fruitwood with a pear shaped pommel with eight sides. The stock is extensively decorated with engraved mother of pearl inlays and staghorn. The wooden ramrod has an engraved staghorn tip to match.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces are bright in appearance with some minor pitting. The barrel is currently only secured by the screw at the end of the long tang. The lock has not been tested. The stock is fine with a few minor dings and handling marks. There are a few small pieces of the pearl border on the butt absent.
