Description:

Developed in 1942, the U.S. M1 Thompson was a streamlined version of the classic Thompson SMG intended to simplify the weapon and speed the manufacturing process. While frills were trimmed, the M1 was still a classic "heavy metal" SMG, constructed from machined steel with fine hardwood furniture. Manufacture was contracted to Auto-Ordnance, with subcontracting to Savage Arms. "S" marked blade front and unmarked fixed peep rear sight, with a straight forearm (non-factory added barrel band on forward section) under the smooth barrel, "S" marked receiver with standard address and model nomenclature markings on the frame, matching numbered "S" marked trigger housing, simplified selector and safety levers, grooved pistol grip, and a fixed buttstock. The left side of the receiver bears "FJA" and "GEG" military inspector marks, and the trigger housing is marked "MPD" (most likely a post-WWII law enforcement inventory mark) on the right side and underside. The bolt is of the M1A1 pattern, with a fixed firing pin, and, as is proper for the M1, there is no provision for an oiler or Blish Lock. Included with the lot are eight (total) magazines, five 20-round and three 30-round stick magazines, with two canvas magazine pouches (one green 5-cell for 20-round mags, one tan 3-cell for 30-round mags), and a "Nobuckl" pattern canvas sling.

Rating Definition:

Fine, with 70% of the thin original du-lite style finish, showing bright wear along the edges, mild spotting and light handling marks. The furniture shows wear appropriate to age and use, and the pouches are all in very fine condition. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
