Description:

Manufactured in 1887, this is a Third Model 1876 with the dust cover guide rail integral to the receiver. Blade front sight, rear ladder sight, and rear adjustable Lyman peep sight marked "1876" mounted on the upper tang. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line address/King's Improvement patent dates ahead of the rear sight and "40-60 W.C.F." at the breech. The bottom of the brass elevator has been stamped "40-60". This rifle is equipped with a set trigger with adjustment screw. The serial number is marked on the lower tang behind the lever latch. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever. Mounted with a smooth walnut forearm with a steel end cap and straight grip stock with a steel crescent buttplate with buttstock compartment (cleaning rod not included). The accompanying factory letter confirms the rifle configuration and that it was received in the warehouse on December 31, 1887 and shipped on the same day with another Model 1876, order number 3488.

Rating Definition:

Very good as partially refinished (wood and chamber area has cold blue/brown touch up). The rifle retains 40% of the blue finish with a mix of smooth brown and gray patina with some scattered scratches. The casehardened hammer and lever have a smooth grey patina. The brass elevator has a smooth dark patina. The markings are clear. The re-varnished fancy burl walnut wood is also very good with only a few scattered scratches and dings. Mechanically fine.
