Manufactured in 1899, the top of flat of the barrel is marked with the two-line address and "38-55" caliber marking at the breech. The upper tang is marked with the three-line model, trademark, and patent information, and the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver. It is fitted with a reflector beaded blade front sight and a three-leaf rear sight. It is mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a crescent buttplate.

Fine, retains 70% plus of the original blue finish, 80% plus of the vibrant original case colors, and 40% of the original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina and a few scattered small patches of light pitting, mostly at the muzzle. The re-oiled wood is very good with some scattered light handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
