Description:

This is a nice complete example of a fairly scarce post WWII Israeli Sniper rifle as developed and modified in Israeli. These rifles are all based on the post-war 98K rifles as produced by Fabrique Nationale in Herstal, Belgium. They were produced in the 1950s using new production receiver, parts and barrels that were all chambered for the 7.62 NATO. The rifle was a straight-forward 98K that has the hardwood stock which has been lengthened on the butt and to which a rubber recoil pad and rubber cheek piece has been added. The Israelis developed a unique scope mounting system that employees two large massive scope bases that are screwed onto the front and rear receiver rings with a spring loaded locking device on the front one that engages a set of double claw scope rings on the scope. This spring loaded locking device was probably intended to keep tension on the claw feet and probably didn't require the expensive and time consuming hand-fitting of the mounting system like the WWII German design did. The scope Is a basic four power, steel tube version with the typical European three-post cross hairs with a ranging scale on the elevation knobs. The top of the scope is marked 4 X over 200305 along with a small star of David with a letter "J" inside. The rifle itself is marked on the left side of the receiver with the serial number and "FAB NAT. D'ARMES de GUERRE, HERSTALE BELGIQUE". The lower stock is branded "7.62 NATO". It is complete with a very RARE metal scope can with a series of labels on the outside with various markings, probably make, model, nomenclature, etc. all in Hebrew and inside the lid it has a lens cleaning brush and a reproduction instruction manual date 1968, also all printed in Hebrew. The rifle has an all parkerized finish on the metal parts, with an Israeli version of a low scope key safety with milled parts. The stock and handguard are both hardwood.

Rating Definition:

Very good to excellent overall with 95% of the gray parkerized finish on the metal parts with wear on the edges and high spots, the floor plate and the bolt body from cycling the action. The scope has 95% of a green painted factory finish with minor chipping and scratching in some spots. It very clear optics and the windage and elevation knobs work and mover freely. The stock and handguard are both in very good condition showing minor pressure dents and dings overall from actual field use. A nice example of a scarce Israeli sniper rifle.
