This is a very rare M1909 Argentine mountain sniper carbine that has been assemble with the original parts and components to include a Very RARE original French SOM Sniper scope. These rifles and carbines are described in the book "The Argentine Mauser" by Colin Webster on page 156. The rifle is a correct M1909 Mountain carbine that was modified by fitting the correct side base and installing the very RARE French produced 3X sniper scope. The carbine is correctly marked with the Argentine Crest on top of the receiver ring with the factory markings on the side wall. The scope is marked on top 3X, RA over "SOM" Paris over No. 211, and base is numbered "A 6957". It is still fitted with the original rubber eye cup on the rear. The scope base that is attached to the receiver is stamped on the top flat A2300 and is fitted with four screws, three that go through the side wall and one angled down through the receiver ring. The barrel is stamped "7.65 MM" on the left side ahead of the top hand guard. It is fitted with the military tangent rear sight with a blade front sight with protectors and a military tangent rear graduated from 200-1400 meters. The receiver is in the white with the remaining parts being blued. It has the correct smooth straight grip stock with left side sling swivels and smooth metal buttplate. It is complete with an original unmarked brown leather scope case.

Very good overall with 80% of the original blue finish, showing some fading to gray and brown on the barrel. The receiver has been lightly cleaned, with some light dings and dents. The stock is good as repaired, with a replaced section of the toe, a chip from the underside of the buttstock, and some light cracking and dings. The action is fair, and the scope is excellent with clear optics with two sections of pitting on the actual mount from sitting in the leather scope case. A nice representative rig of a very RARE Argentine sniper rifle.
