Description:

Remington UMC contract M1911 Pistol manufactured in late 1918. The pistol has a dull, military blue finish with checkered walnut grips. The right side of the slide has the early, two-line, marking: "MODEL OF 1911/U.S. ARMY CALIBER 45" ahead of the ejection port. The left side of the slide has the standard marking with 1905-1913 patent dates and "COLT"S PT.F.A.MFG.CO. in a three line block followed by "REMIINGTON/UMC" in a circle and the Remington Arms / UMC Bridgeport address in three lines ahead of the slide serrations. The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number behind the slide stop hole. The marking appear to have been stamped after the pistol was finished and the edges of the numerals are bright. An "E" is stamped at the rear of the slide above the firing pin stop. The left side of the frame has "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" stamped ahead of the trigger guard. The Ordnance inspectors initials "E.E.C' are stamped on the left side of the frame below the slide stop. The "eagle head/E28" ordnance inspection mark is stamped immediately above the magazine release. A smaller, "E/138" is stamped on the left front trigger guard bow. The pistol is complete with two-tone WWI magazine. The barrel chamber is correctly stamped with a "P" proof on the top.

Rating Definition:

Professionally restored. The pistol retains more than 90% of the blue finish. The dull blue finish is thin on the grip strap and main spring housing and shows light edge wear on the slide at the muzzle and high points. The "E.E.C." markings and serial numbers appear to have been stamped after the pistol was finished and are bright on the inside of the stampings. The barrel chamber has about 60% of the blue finish intact. The walnut stocks have most of the correct two-tone style blue with sharp checkering and only light handling wear. The two-tone magazine near mint. All markings are sharp. A representative example of a scarce Remington UMC M1911 Pistol
