Description:

This Model 1890 is a Second Model takedown with a blued frame. The right side of the receiver is nicely scroll/floral custom engraved with punch dot background and a rabbit in a field scene in the center, the left side is the same engraving with a squirrel on a tree branch in the center. The top of the bolt and receiver are engraved with a oak leaf and acorn motif with punch dot. The slide arm and breech end of the barrel are also scroll engraved. The interesting thing about this engraving is that the finish is original and the engraving is not cut through the finish, this leading one to believe this to be factory, but writer cannot verify at this time. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address/patent dates and the breech end of the barrel is marked " 22 SHORT" amid the engraving. Fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight, which is marked "PAT JAN.29, 1901". Smooth straight grip stock with 12-groove forearm and steel crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent (with exception of wood). The rifle retains approximately 97% of the original blue finish with some edge wear, thinning on the trigger guard and some brown patina on the tangs. There are overall scattered light dings and scratches. The magazine tube shows an area of smooth gray patina on the rear from cycling the action. The buttplate has some overall light spotting. The forearm and buttstock are revarnished with most of the varnish worn on the forearm with a few minor dings and dents. The stock shows some light scratches. All markings and engraving are crisp. The action is fine.
