This fantastic consecutively serial numbered, matching pair of Purdey shotguns was purchased in Wales by Tom Selleck. He was the third owner of the set and personally took the pair to Purdy where they were refurbished, leather wrapped recoil pads were installed extending the length of pull and the stocks were personalized with gold inlaid "TWS" on the underside. This shotgun features a single brass bead sight on the concave solid rib which is marked with a gold inlaid "1" at the breech and "J PURDEY & SONS, AUDLEY HOUSE, SOUTH AUDLEY STREET, LONDON. MADEOF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH'S FLUID PRESSED STEEL". There is a small wedge of fine scroll engraving on the rib at the breech end and a simple border around the breech end of the barrels. Eight pin sidelocks with cocking indicators. The barrels, trigger guard and break lever are blue, the action is casehardened and the screws and safety lever are a bright niter blue. The action, trigger guard, break lever and tangs are nicely engraved with a fine English scroll pattern with the addition of rose bouquets on the action. The top of the action has a deep relief leaf pattern over the scroll. Each side of the action is marked "J. PURDEY & SONS." and the bottom is marked "J. PURDEY & SONS / LONDON". The break lever has a gold inlaid "1" and the "SAFE" is also gold inlaid. The water table is marked with two "crown / V" proofs as well as a "1". Nitro proofed barrels with various proof marks on the barrel flats. The stock and forearm are matching extra fancy English walnut with checkering and tear drop flats. The knuckle and forend release assembly are engraved with the same pattern and the latch assembly is a bright niter blue with a gold inlaid "1". The stock is fitted with a 1 1/4" leather wrapped recoil pad and there is a gold inlaid "1" just below the "TWS" on the underside. 2 1/2" chambers, choked improved cylinder / modified with ejectors. The pull is 16 1/4" with a 1 1/2" drop at the heel and 1 3/8" at the comb. All numbers are matching. The set is complete in a hard leather bound Purdy Trunk case with a canvas cover. The case has the leather James Purdey label affixed to the inside of the lid, wine colored lining, an ivory container with springs and extra firing pins, ebony handled firing pin spanner wrench, two piece wooden cleaning rod, a nickel oiler marked "W. RICHARDS / LIVERPOOL" on the lid, bore brush and brass jag. The canvas cover has leather sewn on edges and corner protectors and there is an 8" x 2 1/2" leather patch sewn to the front with black filled hand tooled "T. W. S.".
