This is a very good example of a shallow milled, small ring hammer Model 1896 Mauser pistol. The back of the hammer is marked with the intertwined "NS", the top of the chamber is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/ MAUSER/OBERNDORF A/N" and the right side of the frame is marked with the large "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER / OBERNDORF A.NECKER". The left side of the chamber and top of the bolt have "crown/U" proofs and there is a crown over script letter proof on the right side of the barrel extension. It has the military style adjustable rear sight graduated from 50-1000 meters and fixed front sight, with 34-groove walnut grips and a lanyard ring on the butt. All numbers match. Also included is a wooden shoulder stock/holster numbered to another gun and leather holster with a cleaning rod. The back of the reproduction holster is spuriously marked "A.PH. HOFFMANN / BERLIN / 1916".

Partially refinished (shoulder stock) with the pistol rating excellent with approximately 90% of the slightly faded original finish remaining, thinning on the barrel and frame with some very light spotting on the barrel as well. The grips straps have a smooth gray patina. Almost all of the bright original niter blue finish remains on the extractor, safety lever and rear sight adjuster. The grips are very good with some wear at the bottoms, crisp serrations and some minor dings and scratches. The stock/holster has been revarnished and remains solid with light handling marks. The leather holster is a well made reproduction (see above).
