Manufactured in 1927, this factory engraved Model 55 takedown rifle features a 1 3/4" wedge of scroll engraving on each side of the breech end of the barrel, on the sides of the receiver, upper tang and bottom of the lever assembly. The left side of the receiver also features a ram in a mountain scene and a deer on the right side. The forend cap has light scroll engraving around each screw and on the bottom. The right rear of the barrel is marked "MADE IN U.S.A. WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. / -----NEW HAVEN CONN.----" and the left side "-MODEL 55- WINCHESTER / --TRADE MARK-- NICKEL STEEL - 30 W.C.F.-". The Winchester oval proof is marked on the top of the receiver and barrel at the breech, "WINCHESTER / --TRADE MARK-- / --MADE IN U.S.A.--" on the upper tang, the serial number is marked on the bottom of the receiver and the takedown handle is marked "-PAT. JUNE 6, 1893". The rifle is equipped with ramp blade front and adjustable sporting rear sights, all blue finish and smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a steel end cap and steel shotgun buttplate.
