The left side rear upper barrel flat is marked with the "V / P / eagle head" proof and inspection marks and it is stamped "F.C.W" just below the proof on the left side. The barrel is held on by a single barrel band and an end cap, the barrel band is marked with a "U" on the right side, full length replacement iron ramrod with a large head with a hole through it. The lock is marked with the eagle shield motif over "U.S." in front of the hammer and " WHITNEY-VILLE" further forward below the bolster and dated "1864" vertically behind the hammer. The serial number "8319" appears on the upper tang. One piece full length plain straight grip stock with iron military buttplate and sling swivels mounted below the buttstock and on rear barrel band. The trigger guard is equipped with the finger spur. The tang of the buttplate is marked "U.S.", the left side of the stock opposite of the lock plate features a cartouche with the initials "F.C.W."

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal parts have been cleaned bright with scratches along the barrel. The top of the barrel at the bolster and the inside edge of the hammer show some minor pitting. The lock has a smooth mottled gray patina. The stock is excellent with a pleasant hand rubbed patina, sharp edges on the flats and a few minor dings and dents. The cartouche is lightly visible and the visible markings on the metal are clear. The action is excellent.
