Description:

Civil War M1840 NCO Sword manufactured in 1863. The sword is complete with a blued steel scabbard with brass throat and drag. The32- inch straight, fullered blade marked 'EMERSON/&/SILVER/TRENTON/NJ" in four lines on the reverse ricasso and is stamped with the property mark, inspector's initials and date ("U.S./DFM/1863") on the obverse. The cast brass hilt has a grip with cast wire wrap and a double, kidney shaped, counter guard. The "DFM" Ordnance inspector's mark is stamped on the left side of the knuckle bow and the scabbard drag.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The blade is bright and the ricasso markings are sharp. The scabbard body has 80% of the original blue finish. The brass drag has a number of dents and small scratches.
