Description:

U.S. Model 1860 Light Cavalry Sword & Scabbard - 35" single fuller blade is marked " C. ROBY / W. CHELMSFORD / MASS." on left ricasso and "U.S. / 1864 / A.G.M." on the right. Three-branch iron knuckle bow, birds head pommel cap and grooved wooden grip. The oval leather blade washer is present. Includes steel scabbard with two ring mounts and is marked "J.M." on the drag.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The blade has scattered pitting, a brown patina and the wooden grip has a one inch piece missing at the pommel. The cast steel knuckle bow at one time was rusted over and cleaned which now gives it an old dark brown, almost hammered or distressed finish. The markings on the blade are clear. The scabbard is fair, the finish has scattered flaking, rust in areas and moderate pitting. The carry rings are firmly attached and the throat and drag are solid.
