A solid representative example of one of the 20,601 percussion carbines manufactured by the Starr Arms Co. of Yonkers, New York, between 1862-1865. The carbine has a blued barrel, brass barrel band and buttplate, casehardened remaining parts and an oil-finished walnut stock and forearm with a boxed "LM" cartouche on the left wrist. The barrel has a two-leaf folding rear sight and a saddle ring and staple are attached to the left side of the receiver. The serial number "5070" is located on the right side of the breechblock and bottom of the barrel under the forearm. "STARR ARMS CO. YONKERS N.Y." is marked on top of the barrel in front of the rear sight, "H.G.S." on the left side at the breech, "STARR'S PATENT / SEPT. 14 TH 1858" on the receiver tang and "STARR ARMS CO / YONKERS. N.Y." on the lock plate.

Rating Definition:

Good. The barrel has a brownish patina and the remaining metal has a darker patina with overall pin prick type pitting. The barrel band and buttplate have an aged patina. The wood has been sanded and refinished and remains good with a moderate chip on the left wrist and some minor handling marks. The markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
